Assignments:
5th grade: Spelling words go home on Friday to be written five times each and are due on Monday. A spelling worksheet
is homework on Monday or finished in class on Tuesday. The pretests are on Tuesday with the final test on Wednesday. An A+
on Tuesday means no test for the student on Wednesday! (See the bottom of this page for more information on spelling. In the English book we are beginning possessive nouns. Students should
expect a worksheet each day (or a book assignment) over these lessons. We have made journals and will be writing in them a
few times each week during class.

almost every day.

7th Grade: Spelling words are sent home on Fridays to be written three times
each for Monday. Special challenge words are written five times each. Pretests are on Tuesday;
final tests on Wednesday. An A+ on Tuesday means no test on Wednesday! (See bottom of this page for more information
on spelling. We are finishing the chapter on nouns and pronouns, starting the chapter review, and will be having a
test later next week (Nov. 16).
8th Grade: Each
week eighth graders have vocabulary study from a unique program. Students learn three new words every Monday, write them on
color-coded paper, and paperclip them together with the three words from all the previous weeks of the quarter. We review
the words in various different types of activities during the week, and on Friday take a quiz. Each week three more words
are added to their collection, with all of them on the quiz. By the end of the quarter, there will be 27 words. Then we will
start over with just three words, etc. So far, during the second quarter we have learned
enigma, eccentric, obstinate, expunge, apprehend,
euphemism and more! We are also working
on punctuation usage.
Although the eighth graders
do not have spelling on a regular basis, they do have a list occasionally that is based completely on words that were misspelled
in their own writing.

AR BOOKMARKS - See photo below
When students earn AR points by reading books in Mrs. Wrage's reading class, they can win an extra
prize from Mrs. Acton. For every 100 points earned, students win a bookmark of their choice from her collection. This
photo shows the names and numbers of points earned. Green = 100 points,
purple = 200 points, pink = 300 points, decorated blue paper = 400 points (only 6 kids made it), and pink heart-shaped paper
= 500 points. Last year only Sadie in 7th grade and Cheyenne in 8th grade made it over 500 points! So far this year three students have already earned 100 points, an eighth grader, a seventh
grader, and a sixth grader.
